Winter's not over yet....

Saturday, a winter storm blew in.  I decided it was a good day to stay in, knit, drink tea, and watch a movie.

When I let Penn out Sunday morning, it looked like this

I just keep repeating to myself "Less than a month until the first day of spring".

"Come on mom, quit taking pictures and let me in!"

W.I.P Wednesday (on Tuesday!)

No progress made on any of my quilting projects.  The basket case wallhanging is still sitting on my crafting table, exactly where it was last week.

Lots of knitting happened this week.  I took one of my projects with me when we went to Saskatoon on Saturday, and worked on it in the car.  Last night was knitting group night (chinese food and knitting...two very good things!)

These are the two Baktus scarves I'm working on

And the other scarf I'm working on

With my lovely assistant.

A cold is creeping up on me today, so lots of tea is the prescription.  As well as something sweet!

A cup of sweet milky tea on the right, and a Dr. Oetker mug cake on the left.  Yummy!

Saturday in Saskatoon

Yesterday, the Sister and I (and our dogs) drove up to Saskatoon for the day.  We go up there for the day every few months.  We shop, eat at Fuddrucker's (I miss Fudds in Regina!), take the dogs for a bit of a walk at the University.

It was a beautiful day starting out.  No fog at all (yes, it's that corner again)

It was a beautiful day for the drive, and the roads were great.  When we got there, we went to McNally Robinson to shop for books, and then to Periwinkle Quilting so I could indulge my fabric fix.  I was amazingly restrained.

After lunch, we took the dogs to the University so they could stretch some and 'relieve' themselves.

And have a nice drink of water.

I took a picture of the view of downtown Saskatoon.

And the sunset on the way home to Regina.

It was a very good day.

A Very Foggy Friday

When I went to let Penn out this morning, I noticed that it seemed to be foggy.

Got in the car, and driving to work it became extremely foggy. I grabbed my camera out of my purse and tried to get some pictures.

At the corner of Broad and Broadway.  Normally, downtown Regina is clear.

Same corner as I was going back to work after lunch.

Buildings are clearer, but the fog is still hanging around.  Hoarfrost was collecting on the trees.  I was hoping that it would still be on after work, but it was all gone.  Maybe in the morning.

Penn didn't care.  He was enjoying being outside for a bit.

Happy Flag Day!

February 15, 1965 is when our beautiful Maple Leaf became the official flag of Canada.

Just another Manic Monday

Well, maybe not so manic.  It was my day off, so I decided I was just going to putter around.  I made some progress on the cleaning project--I can start to see some surfaces now!  I also worked on the "I'm not a basket case" wall hanging.

It's not as bright as it appears in this pictures...I used a Kansas Troubles charm pack to make it so its a little dustier in colour.  The binding is now completely sewn on.  I just need to hand sew it on the back.

I also started a new Baktus scarf for myself.  I'm using Noro Taiyo sock yarn to make it.  No picture yet.

Tonight was knit night at the Wok Box.  I had the Singapore Cashew stir fry for supper, and then got a lot done on the Baktus.

Penn wanted to come with me:

I have a follower!  Thanks Brenda, you made my day!

Sunny Saturdays make me smile!

This has been a very good day so far.  Although I didn't sleep in, I had some quiet time in bed to read and cuddle with the furbabies.  Not both at the same time, of course.

Then off to Montana's for lunch with the girls!  Nora, Bonnie, Pam, Joan, Susan, Karen and myself.  We talked about the play last night, about the trips we've taken, and about life in general.  Much laughter occurred.

After a trip to Chapters and a couple of new magazines later, home to knit and relax.  I also accomplished a bit on digging out the disaster that is my place lately.  Slowly but surely I'll get this place cleaned up.   One of the things I hate most about depression is the total lack of energy to keep up with things.

Looking forward to doing some sewing this evening.  Maybe make some headway on my "Not a Basket Case!"  wall hanging!

Of Apes and men....

I've seen this video a few times now, and it never fails to amaze me.

I don't think I would have stayed as calm as this man did while those gorillas were that close.

It's snowing...

Not hard, just pretty snowflakes drifting down.  The kind you like to get on Christmas Eve.

The nice thing about February is that you can start to see the end of winter.  Spring is just around the corner.

Why Facing Fifty

This year, I'll be 50 years old.  My intention is to use this blog to track the things that go right, the things that go wrong, the things that make me smile, as I finish out my 40's.  And going beyond that, looking towards my retirement and what I want to be when I grow up!

I'll be listing my 'gratitudes'; they may not always be big things, but they're things that make my days just a little brighter.

Here's one of them:
My Katie.  She's a 12 year old tortoiseshell Maine Coon cross.  She's a big girl, and definitely is the queen of my household.

Here's another:

Penn.  He's an 8 month old Maltipoo/yorkie cross.  It's been a while since I've had a dog, and I'd forgotten how much fun they are.

So, my gratitudes for today:  sunshine and blue skies, a lazy Saturday morning, my fur babies.

First post!

I've been thinking about starting a blog for a while now.  I'm hoping that I can use this to track this transition in my life.
